This self-watering pot is perfect for plants needing their soil to be consistently moist, like ferns, alocasias, and calatheas.  Or if you travel, fill the reservoir before you head out of town and know that your plant baby will be taken care of while you're gone. For self-watering application, the soil needs to be saturated when the plant is initially potted and the reservoir should be filled with water for the wick to take up water.
